Denis' Tour of Cashel

Cashel Palace Hotel Itinerary
By Denis Heffernan, Of the Guinness Bar, Cashel Palace Hotel

Visit the Guinness Bar and see the exact area where on the 17th of August 1740, Richard Guinis discovered his own and now absolute ‘Legend’, World famous Guinness Stout, and see the remains of the original Hop Plants used in the making of the famous brew.
Outside and to the left of the Main Entrance of our beautiful Hotel, visit The Kilkenny Shop and browse around (Wonderful Gifts)
Visit Daverns Drapery Shop opposite the Main Entrace (One of the best clothes shops)
Drop into the Heritage Center, in the middle of Main Street (Great to browse around)
In the Domnick Street, visit the Folk Village, which has wonderful artifacts on display regarding the history of South Tipperary and particularly of the Famine Years (Black 1847) and of the Civil War period (1914-1922)
Visit Domnicks Abbey beside the Folk Village, the keys of the Abbey can be obtained from Mrs Alice Donald (house beside the Abbey)
Lunch and drinks in the Bishops Buttery or in the Guinness Bar, Cashel Palace Hotel (Great Cuisine and craic)
After lunch take the Bishops Walk to the world famous Rock of Cashel, on the right you will see part of the original Town Wall dating back to the 9th Century. The word ‘Cashel’ means ‘Stone Fort’, hence our forefathers decided that way back in the 9th Century that they would build their own Stone Fort on the great site. You are now in the oldest Ecclistical site in Europe, where Christianity began up the Shamrock to explain the Blessed Trinity (You will be in awe and wonder of this great place, that takes you back in time)
Visit Bru Boru Irish Heritage Center, beside the Rock of Cashel. Hoare Abbey to the west of the Rock is worth a visit as it was the first Cistercian Abbey
Also visit Saint John’s Church of Ireland Cathedral and the Charter House (Bishop Boltons Library), where lies within some of the rarest books and manuscripts, including the Worlds Smallest Bible
Across the lane visit Saint John the Baptist (Patron Saint of Cashel) Roman Catholic Church, take a photograph just inside the gates of the Church of the grave of Dean Innocent Ryan who saved Cashel on the 15th July 1922 from being burned by the Black and Tans.
Pubs to be visited are the:

Guinness Bar - Cashel Palace Hotel (best craic and atmosphere)
Dowlings Pub
Mikey Ryans
Chiefs Bar
The Brian Boru
All the above pubs are located on the Main Street, Cashel.

‘Cead Mile Failte’ - ‘A Hundred Thousand Welcomes to you’
